The University of Chicago’s history and campus circulation hinge on Cobb Gate, connecting key areas on campus. We conducted a comprehensive survey to ensure campus-wide accessibility compliance. It revealed that the walking path through the gate had an excessive slope. To address this issue, we had to lower a utility tunnel connecting adjacent buildings below ground level, posing structural and clearance challenges. During this process, we uncovered sections of the original, unfinished foundation stones. These were meticulously refinished or concealed through new construction.
