The first of its kind in the U.S., the Chez Veterans Center at UIUC provides transitional living facilities and support services to integrate student veterans with a range of disabilities into academic and civilian campus life. The design departed from a clinical model by following inclusive design concepts to thoughtfully integrate and refine accessible details to improve functionality while maintaining high aesthetic standards. The result is a welcoming and inclusive building with inconspicuous accessibility features that all people use in the same dignified way.
