Ribbon Cutting at Philip J. Rock School

Governor JB Pritzker joined us at the ribbon cutting at LCM’s project, Philip J. Rock Center & School, which brings together school and residence to create a home for children who have both vision and hearing disabilities. The building is designed with love, embracing students with a subtle bend in the floor plan.

A drive-up canopy with wood slats creates a gentle transition between the exterior and interior environment. The two-story social hub and café is the heart of the residence; the sculptural open stairs provide a multisensory connection between the first-floor dorms and the second-floor classrooms.

The new center offers an environment that is both welcoming and empowering. Soft indirect lighting, richly textured finishes, and purposeful use of color provide multisensory touchpoints, helping students intuitively navigate through the building with confidence.

Universal Design principles guided LCM Architects in the creation of the new building to establish a shelter where students can live, learn, and become independent.
